 Wedding Photography Advice and FAQ

How do I book?

A fee of £500 is required as a deposit to secure the day (we only take one booking per day). 15 days prior to your wedding the remaining balance becomes due. Payment for extra prints chosen at your album pre-viewing will be requested before we order your album. To check availability, click below and send details of when and where you are getting married.

Is it worth the extra expense for an experienced professional wedding photographer?

For the bride in particular her wedding day is a fairy tale event, a wonderful celebration of love, a once in a lifetime experience. There is no better way of remembering all the atmosphere, emotion and excitement than with an album produced by an experienced, dedicated, professional wedding photographer...Lords

A wedding is a wonderful mix of emotion and excitement, family and friends, fantastic details in the dresses, the flowers, the reception and everything you have planned so carefully for months. Our experience and skill allows to capture all this atmosphere whilst you have an easy, enjoyable day. We believe our photography is truly beyond the ordinary and thousands of happy clients prove we’re on the right track .

There will be times when we need to work quickly, under pressure, but to a very high standard. There will be times when things happen outside your control, such as bad weather. It is at these times that experience really counts.

You need to be confident that your photographer can produce the goods under this pressure, regardless of any situation that may occur. There is no second chance for a re-shoot a wedding.

If you really care about the quality of the finished set of photographs then the extra expense of booking Lords is well spent. Remember, it’s too late to regret it afterwards.

What makes Wedding Photography by Lords so special?

Will you take black and white and will the photographs be in a reportage style?

Yes. We always take a large selection of black & white pictures.

Reportage is a style of photography where nothing is posed...everything as it happens. We will take pictures in this style, but sometimes it is better to stage manage informal moments so that they look natural and un-posed, but at the same everybody looks at their best.

In addition we will take some formal groups (see below for more advice on groups) and posed pictures. We do not over pose and put people into uncomfortable positions...we find it is better to photograph you ways that look natural.

How long do we stay and how many photographs will we take?

Our coverage starts with the bride’s preparations for the day and finishes at the  commencement of the wedding breakfast. We often stay to photograph the speeches and evening party which are optional extras.

We work quickly and unobtrusively to ensure you and your guests have an enjoyable day. There is no limit to how many photographs we take. Every wedding is different, but we usually take between 250 and 400 depending on the number of locations.

Will I get to keep a full set of the pictures taken?

Yes. We include a full set of pictures, approximately credit card sized,

presented in a portfolio.

Where will the photographs be taken and will you give advise on timetabling the day?

We will recommend which are the best locations available to us on the day. At a pre wedding meeting we will discuss with you the best options and work out a timetable of events so that on the day we know when we should be where. If time allows, we are happy to use a local beauty spot as an additional location. We will also make plans for photography indoors in case the weather lets us down.

It is most important to allow sufficient time for the photography. We work as quickly as possible but you will enjoy the day more if the schedule is fairly relaxed. It is also important that when getting ready you allow extra time for hair, makeup etc than normal. It is an exciting day and inevitably things take longer than expected. If we build this extra time into the morning schedule we can take better pictures and you are not stressed. In this way you can arrive at the ceremony on time. Remember that if you arrive late it will have a knock on effect for the rest of the day. Your meal time is usually fixed, so the only way to catch up is to cut down on the photography time...not an ideal situation.

How can we speed up the photography?

Of course everybody wants to get on with the party as quickly as possible, but we do need sufficient time to capture a fantastic record of your day.

We have developed techniques to speed the process up as much as possible.

As an example, we discuss, prior to the wedding, what group pictures you would like. Posed groups are far and away the most time consuming photographs to take. We recommend which are the best ones and try to keep them to 5 or 6, which as a guide, will take around 25 minutes. To save time finding people your ushers can help by bringing everybody together for the groups and can be prepared with a shooting list.

We will be taking informal party photographs throughout which look better than lots of posed groups and show the atmosphere of the day to much better effect.

Will you look after my dress?

We are used to working with designer dresses and know how to show them to their best advantage.

In the morning we do everything we can to keep your dress spotless for your grand entrance at the ceremony...it is quite normal for us to help you in and out of your car and to carry the train.

There comes a time though when we have to lay your dress out for the pictures. Inevitably your dress will pick up marks. It is better to accept this and enjoy the day regardless.

Will you photograph all the special details?

We will try to capture all those special details which you have spent so long getting just right.

Your flowers and buttonholes, tiara, jewellery, dress details, shoes, cufflinks, table decorations, favours are just some of the items we look to photograph.

Including these pictures in your finished album makes it more personal and truly special.

Are parents albums & extra copies for family and friends available?

Yes! In fact with orders for 20 or more 8”x6” or 10”x8” reprints we mount them into a parents album for no extra charge. In addition we also offer a full range of reprints in various sizes and presentations.
